I've noticed differences in monster strength, even when I fight the same type of monster in the same area.
There are differences in the strengths of every monster, including monsters of the same type. You should always check the strength of a monster before engaging it in battle. To check the strength of a monster, target the monster and press the confirm button on the analog controller to open the action command menu. Then, select "Check." If you have a keyboard connected, you may quickly check a monster's strength by pressing Alt + C.
