Frequently Asked Questions

I'm continuing to experience sound issues in the game after Patch 6.05.

====================
(Update: Friday, January 7, 2022)

We have found that the number of digits are not being correctly adjusted in certain parts of the calculation process in the FINAL FANTASY XIV game sound driver. This is causing some CPUs to be unable to keep up with the calculations, resulting in the symptoms players are experiencing.

Most of the affected CPUs are older models from around 10 years ago, but we have confirmed that some of the latest CPUs are also affected. We will continue to investigate and address the issue based on the characteristics of these CPUs, so that the calculation process can be performed correctly.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this is causing. We will release an additional fix after conducting a pattern verification for the next patch, so we kindly ask for your patience.
====================

We have confirmed that the issue is persisting after Patch 6.01 under certain sound settings and system configurations, particularly on CPUs that are 10 years or older. Our investigation thus far has given us a better idea of where the problem lies in, but we are continuing to look into this to identify the exact cause. If you are continuing to experience this issue, we kindly ask you to review the following:

If you are running the game on a computer with minimum system requirements or an environment close to it, high quality settings in the game and/or other applications running in the background may be leading to insufficient resources. Please try the following troubleshooting steps to see if they resolve the issue.

----
[On the game client]
・Go to "System Configuration" > "Other Settings" > and reduce the value for "Character and Object Quantity"
・Go to "System Configuration" > "Graphics Settings" > Set quality to "Standard"
[On Windows]
・Close out any other applications that are running.
・From the Windows Control Panel go to "Sound Settings" > Open the properties for your "Default Device" > Choose the "Advanced" tab > Select a lower setting under "Default Format."
----

If the above methods do not work, please submit a bug report containing the following information along with your system information. This will help us isolate specific cases.

・The graphics and sound settings you are currently playing the game on.
・Whether or not the issue persists if you play the game on DX9 mode. You can switch to DX9 mode via the Settings menu (cogwheel icon) on the FFXIV launcher.
・(If you are using a gamepad) Whether or not the issue persists if you disconnect the gamepad or connect a different one.
・Whether or not the issue persists if you go to "System Configuration" > "Sound Settings" > "Equalizer" > and select "Standard."
・Whether or not the issue persists if you go to "System Configuration" > "Sound Settings" > "Listening Position" > select "Character."
・(If applicable) Whether or not the issue persists if you go to your Windows Control Panel > "Sound Settings" > Open the properties for your "Default Device" > Choose the "Enhancements" tab > Remove checks on all boxes (or just leave the "Disable all enhancements" box checked)

*How to obtain your system information:
Open the FINAL FANTASY XIV launcher > Click the "CONFIG" icon shown in the lower right of the launcher > Click "DISPLAY" for "System Information" > Click "Copy to Clipboard"
