Purchasing the game on Steam will grant you a registration code which must then be registered to a Square Enix account. Before you can register this code, you must first link the Steam account used to purchase the game and a Square Enix account. Once the accounts are linked, you will be able to redeem the registration code and begin playing the game.

1. Launch "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online" from the "Library" in Steam.
   Please ensure that you are on the Steam account used to purchase the game before starting the registration process. Once Steam and Square Enix accounts are linked, they cannot be unlinked.
   
   
2. A pop up showing "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online CD key" may be displayed. Please copy the 20-digit registration code, then return and press the "Play" button.
   The product code can also be viewed from Library > Right click on “FINAL FANTASY XIV Online” > Manage > CD keys. The registration code will remain here and can be referenced at any time.
   
   
3. Launch FINAL FANTASY XIV Online and follow the process to create or log in with your Square Enix account.
   Square Enix account owners may log in and proceed to the next step. If you do not possess a Square Enix account, you simply need to click on the "Register for a Square Enix account" button on the launcher, or you may register for one on the web here.
   
   
   
   
4. Link your Square Enix account to your Steam account.
   Once linked, your accounts cannot be unlinked, so if you have multiple Square Enix accounts, be sure to log into the Square Enix account you wish to play on when performing these steps.
   
   
   
   
5. Click “Registration Code Entry” on the following screen to create a new service account.
   
   
   
   
6. Enter the registration code from step 2 in the registration code field.
   
   
   
   
7. The Terms of Service will be displayed.
   
   
   
   
8. The Service Account Confirmation screen will be displayed.
   Here you can review the game content that will be registered to your service account.
   
   
   
   
9. Registration is complete and you are ready to play FINAL FANTASY XIV Online.
   Continue to the main login screen and log in with your Square Enix account ID and password to start playing the game.
   
   
   
   

Follow the instructions below to register for the Free Trial account on Steam. Please see this article for more information about the Free Trial version.

1. Go to the Steam Free Trial page and install the Free Trial.
   
   
2. Launch "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Free Trial" from the "Library" in Steam.
   After clicking “Play” you will be prompted to log in with your Square Enix account. If you do not possess a Square Enix account, you may create one as part of the installation process, or you may create one here ahead of time.
   
   
   
   
3. Link your Square Enix account to your Steam account.
   Once linked, your accounts cannot be unlinked, so if you have multiple Square Enix accounts, be sure to log into the Square Enix account you wish to play on when performing these steps.
   
   
   
   
4. The Terms of Service will be displayed.
   
   
   
   
5. The service account confirmation screen will be displayed.
   
   
   
   
6. Registration is complete and you are ready to play the Free Trial.
   
   
   
   

Follow the instructions below to upgrade your free trial to the full version of the game on Steam. Please note that you can only transfer to the Steam full version if you signed up for the Steam Free Trial.

1. Purchase a copy of the Steam version from the Steam Store.
   
   
2. Log into the Mog Station using the Square Enix account used during the Free Trial.
   
   
3. Click the "Transfer to Full Game" button on the Free Trial service account.
   
   
   
   
4. Click the "Registration Code Entry" button at the bottom to proceed. Steam will be selected as the platform by default.
   
   
   
   
5. The Terms of Service will be displayed.
   
   
   
   
6. Enter the 20-digit registration code for the full version of the game.
   The registration code can be viewed from your Steam Library > Right click on “FINAL FANTASY XIV Online” > Manage > CD keys. It will always be listed there for you to reference at any time.
   
   
   
   
7. Review the details of the full version you are registering, then click "Next".
   
   
   
   
8. Your account now has a license for the full version.
