Can the player name be changed?
Yes, you can change your name by using the Beauty Salon. You can access this option by tapping the Bushy Bazaar icon at the bottom right of the Home screen and then selecting Beauty Salon.
Once in the Beauty Salon, tap on "Change" under the character you wish to change the name for, choose the Gender and Look (or select "Go with this Gender" "Go with this Look" to skip those options), then tap on the character's current name to edit it. Once you change the character's name, tap on "Go with this Name" and then "Go with this Character" to save it.
