I equipped a weapon as a monk and my attack decreased.
Since monks are highly adept at using their bare hands in combat, their attack rating while bare handed increases with proficiency. As such, if the bare handed attack rating exceeds the weapon attack rating, equipping a weapon will reduce attack rating.
