A Reminder About Password Security: Follow-up
This is an update to our recent announcement regarding password security made on December 2, 2010 (http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/news/detail?newsId=6062b357cb9ec61a12cb4d10f360f110180a653e).
In that announcement, we stated that certain users outside of North America had their Square Enix Accounts compromised as a result of using the same name and password for their Square Enix Account as for another company’s online service which recently experienced a data breach.
We have now discovered that this issue was not confined to Japan, and some users in North America have also reported unauthorized access to some Square Enix Accounts.
We wish to assure our customers that their financial information is not at risk should an account be compromised since Square Enix takes extra precautions to safeguard such information.
Nevertheless, we strongly advise our customers to review the notice posted on December 2, 2010 (http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/news/detail?newsId=6062b357cb9ec61a12cb4d10f360f110180a653e) and follow these extra precautions to ensure the security of your Square Enix Account.
