If you are unable to play the game

This troubleshooting guide is divided into three parts:

■Unable to install
■Unable to connect
■Unable to start client

■If you are unable to install

If you are unable to install properly, please try the below.

* Terminate running applications
Attempt to install after terminating all other applications.

* Windows user privileges
If you are using Windows XP, attempt to install with administrator privileges.

* The installation folder uses double-byte characters
If the name of folder specified for installation uses double-byte characters, including Japanese text, you may not be able to complete the installation. Please install to a folder whose name uses only single-byte characters.

* HDD space insufficient
To install Final Fantasy XIV, you must have the amount of free space listed below.
The installation destination must have at least 15 GB of free space.
The My Documents folder must have at least 6 GB of free space.
The Temp folder (“C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\Local Settings\Temp”) must have at least 1 GB of free space.
* If you are using Windows Vista/7, the “C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp” folder must have at least 1 GB of free space.
* If the format of the My Documents folder is FAT32/exFAT, you will not be able to install the game.

* Disk read errors
If an error is displayed while reading from the disk and installation fails, the drive lens may be dirty or damaged. Please try the below.

1. Test whether or not the drive can read a different dual-layer disc
2. Clean the lens of the optical drive
3. Try another optical drive

■ If you are unable to connect
By trying the steps below, you may be able to fix the problem.

* Power cycle the connectivity device
Sometimes, resetting the bad data stored in the connectivity device will allow you to connect normally. Turn off the power on the modem, router, hub, etc., wait several minutes, turn the power on again, and check whether or not the problem is fixed.

* Update the firmware of the connectivity device
With some devices, you may be unable to connect properly using a certain version of the firmware. We recommend updating to the newest version.

- Please check with the device’s manufacturer regarding the method of updating the firmware. Even if you are running the newest version, overwriting it may fix the problem.

* Connect the PC directly to the modem
To determine the source of the problem, temporarily disconnect any device that splits the connection, such as a hub, connect, and test whether or not the problem has been solved.

- The connection type may be changed to broadband. Please ask your provider about which settings to use.

* Firewall settings/deactivation
Please delete or deactivate any programs that you judge to be unnecessary and check whether or not the problem has been fixed. At this time, if you are using security software or firewall software, you can try (at your own risk) adjusting the settings so that “ffxivboot.exe” is allowed to bypass the software, deactivating the software, or uninstalling it.

- How to terminate all running applications
