How do I take measures to prevent my account from being compromised?

Preventative Measures Against Unauthorized Access

We advise taking the following measures to safeguard your account information from malicious third parties.

■ Do not share your SQUARE ENIX ID or password with anyone, even if you are close friends.
*Remember that SQUARE ENIX will never ask a customer for their password for no apparent reason.

■ Use a one-time password
- A security token is a device for displaying One-Time Passwords that will dramatically improve account security. Pressing the button will display a One-Time Password on the device's LCD screen which will provide you the required one-time password needed to access your account. Square Enix Security Tokens may be purchased from the Square Enix Store for $14.99.
- A "One-Time Password" is a six-digit number shown on a screen using either a key-ring like the Square Enix Security Token or a smartphone app, such as the Square Enix Software Token.
*New applications for the Square Enix Software Token have been discontinued as of November 20, 2023.

How can I obtain a security token?

I want to purchase a Square Enix Security Token and use it to log into my Square Enix Account. What do I need to do?

- Do not keep a paper copy of your SQUARE ENIX ID or password in an easily accessible location.
- When deciding on your password, avoid strings of characters that are easy to guess and periodically change your password.
- Do not click on suspicious links when browsing the web.
- Also, avoid using third party, unauthorized “helper” programs, since they can lead to account information becoming compromised.
- Periodically run Windows Update, virus checks, and keep your security updated to the latest version.

*There have been cases where personal information has been illegally accessed even with virus software installed and tight security in place. Please remain vigilant and do not assume that you are protected from programs capable of compromising personal information.
*Please also exercise caution when using a smart phone to access SQUARE ENIX services.
